Greenville County Capital Project Sales Tax – Guardians for Greenville County (2024)

Failed on November 5, 2024. 51.5% voting No

The South Carolina Community Alliance, together with the Greater Greenville Association of REALTORS® and the Guardians of Greenville County coalition supported the Greenville County Capital Project Sales Tax on the November 5th ballot. Greenville County is the largest county in South Carolina by population and employment, and is also home to the largest roadway system in the state. The funding from this initiative would have provided critical resources to support over 1,500 high priority bridge, intersection, corridor, and resurfacing projects at a cost of over $1 billion dollars. 

In 2014, Greenville County attempted to pass a similar proposal and penny sales tax, but that referendum also failed — by a wide margin. That proposal included more than 75 projects and ten years later, none of the projects have been started.
